Ok so all of you new to the iPhone there is a camera in it. The camera application is pretty good, but like the default weather application there is much to be desired. Here are the specs on the 3G and 3Gs iPhones Camera. The iPhone 3G sports a 2 megapixels camera capable of geotagging (recording your longitude and latitude as metadata into the picture). The iPhone 3Gs has a 3 megapixel camera with autofocus and tap to focus features as well as video recording* that boasts VGA quality up to 30 fps (frames per second), it also supports geotagging for both pictures and videos.
* An app is available called iVideo Camera if you don’t have a 3GS that will allow you to record video! I’ll have a download link at the bottom.
Now with all the tech babble out of the way on to the app review! Gorilla Cam is fantastic and surpasses the default Camera app in almost every aspect! It has an enormous amount of options starting with zoom capabilities. After enabling the zoom setting in the settings screen (which is conveniently only one click away) a slider on the right side of screen appears serving as your virtual W/T slider. Next, Gorilla Cam has a “press anywhere” feature that is fantastic for self-portraits or pictures when you are holding your iphone (the chances of hitting that little camera button to snap a pic are slim to none in this position)! It is also easily turned on from the settings screen.
Settings Screen
As you can see from the screen shot they are also options for Self-timer, Time-lapse, Anti-shake, bubble level, Grid, Press Anywhere, and lastly 3 shot burst. The self-timer and Time-lapse are easily customizable just turn on the feature and icons will pop up in the bottom of the screen to the left of the camera button. This is where you set your Delay (in seconds) for self-timer or number of shots (all the way to infinity) and time Interval (in seconds) between shots for Time-lapse.
The bubble level feature just incorporates a literal bubble level at the top of the screen by using the iPhone’s built-in accelerometer (this is what tells your device whether to be in portrait or landscape). The Anti-shake is a great feature, but should only be used when time is not of the essence because it can be rather picky at times, especially if you have the shakes like my man Tyrone from the Chappelle Show (peanut butter and crack sandwhich ummm) ! The grid is another fantastic feature if you like symmetry in your photos or just want grid lines overlayed. Below is a screenshot:
Grid-ON, Bubble Level-ON, Time Lapse-ON, Zoom-ON
Lastly, the Press Anywhere feature is the one I get the most mileage out of because of the reasons I talked about above…i.e. self-portraits, but what I really love is that when you ask someone to take a picture with your iPhone you can just say Press anywhere instead of giving them a 3 hour lecture on how to press the camera button to take a picture (trust me on this one, older people will chew your ear off, which I don’t mind sometimes)
The Gorilla Cam App also allows you to look at your Camera Roll from with in the app. All you have to do is click the gridded square in the bottom right corner and up pops your photos! From here there is the option of emailing the photo by pressing the photo and then in the upper right corner pressing the pencil and paper icon. Its that easy!
This is by far the best camera app out right now and thats why its part of the Way2Hype Starter Kit!

This is my favorite iPhone 3G app for taking pictures. The only problem I have with it is that it does not geotag images. Very sad. Other than that everything else is wonderful!
I feel you man. What I do if I am taking a batch of photos somewhere. Is take one with the default camera app and then in iphoto do a batch change to the events location. but totally agree no geo-tagging is pretty lame!
