So for all you lead foots out there that don’t want to get any more tickets. Download Trapster! Its a fantastic app that transforms your iPhone into a radar detector. How does it work? Well instead of me trying to explain it just click on this: Trapster Explained

In a nut shell, everyone reports cops or known enforcement points, therefore allowing people to slow down before they reach a speed trap, hence no more tickets (Jessica).

The great thing about Trapster is it has audio alerts and you can even choose the voice by pressing the 3rd button from the bottom in the icon bar on the right.

You have a bevy of options from the standard languages: English, French, German, and Spanish. However, you also have an Australian, Hillybilly, Mr. Flamboyant, Mr. Grumpy, NY Cab Driver, Proper Brit, Southern Bell, and Sultry Voice.  Of note you can easily mute the sound by pressing the Blue speaker button in the upper left hand corner.

Ok now you have chosen your voice lets get into the actual app!  The app is great for road trips or just a quick trip to the convenient mart to pick up a sixer and a swisher because you can see Real-Time Traffic by pressing the 4 button from the bottom (three car button).

Also there is a great feature where if you are going on a Roadtrip you can write a summary, add pictures and even send a URL out for people to track your trip!! My mom loves this because I can just send her an email when my sister and I go to Pittsburgh to visit our Dad! You can even share on Facebook or Twitter if you like!

To access this just click on the 4th button down from the top. To add more trips just press the plus sign in the upper right hand corner when you are on the My Trips screen.

As you can see from the screenshot above you can easily control who you share your trip with; Anyone, Only Me, With URL. To email the URL just press the Share My Trip button!

This is what the email looks like. To delete trips just press Delete Trip at the bottom when on the Trip Info Screen or slide delete (slide your finger on the trip you want deleted, then press the delete button) on the My Trips Screen.

Another great feature in Trapster is the ability to control your music! If you have music playing before entering the app it will display the album art and controls to repeat, shuffle, Forward/Back, play and pause. It is really nice too because it will fade the music in/out when there is an audio alert. Whats even better is that if you click on the plus sign you can make an on the go playlist!!

FYI: it does not store the playlist anywhere and if you press the plus sign to add songs after you have made your playlist it will create a new playlist…i.e. you just made a 100 song playlist and want to add a couple more but are already listening to the playlist, when you press the plus sign it creates a whole new playlist and deletes the other one.

If you are feeling frisky and want to start reporting traps you have to have a trapster account. Just click here: Trapster SignUp. Its easy, free and all you need is a email address. Once signed up if you see a cop or want to report a speed trap just hit report and choose the corresponding option.

This is what the report screen looks like and then you will have to Confirm or Reject. Also whenever you drive by traps already reported you can also give them a thumbs up for being correct or thumbs down for being wrong.

Trapster has an algorithm that builds trust or won’t trust someone as much depending of their report history to keep the most accurate trap reports.

You can also get directions to somewhere by pressing the magnifying glass in the bottom right corner. The search doesn’t work very well, but if you have actual addresses it works great!

If you press the 2nd button from the bottom it will highlight a path where fellow Trapsters have been recently, which is awesome! This feature is called patrol overlay.

Under the Patrol Overlay button is the settings button, which has too many options to go into. So just click and filter what ever alerts you want to receive. You can even set your confidence level to ensure on the most accurate traps are the ones you see!

My favorite feature of Trapster is the Caravan feature! It allows you to see your friends on Trapster and chat with them! Great feature for multiple car roadtrips! Man I would have loved this during my Spring Break Days in High School road tripping down to PCB! You can even set a 40 character status! The first button at the top is just a map auto-rotation or Always north orientation, pressing the button toggles between the two.

Now lets get connected! Press on the Options button and up will pop everything really, display options, Twitter, Facebook, Route (if you input directions), Audio, Nearby Traps, and Settings (which is where the push notifications are housed).

The display options allow for three map views: Map, Satellite, Hybrid. Also you can choose what is seen on your map such as Restaurants and Starbucks, among a lot of other options!

As you can see Trapster is more than just a Radar Detector, it can control your music, plan your routes, share your trips, and even allow you to communicate with other Trapster users via the Caravan feature! This is one of the best apps out right now and its free, hence it’s inclusion in the Way2Hype Starter Kit!
