First off, I didn’t mean to insinuate that anyone reading this article is a dummy I just liked the title Ok so you have finally decided to take the plunge and jailbreak your iPhone! Glad to have you and welcome to the dark side!

So why would anyone want to jailbreak their iDevice? There are a ton of reasons, but mostly for freedom. For example: to unlock your iPhone, Facetime over 3G, 5 Apps in your dock, custom lockscreens, custom themes, sync to iTunes wirelessly, download apps Apple has rejected i.e. Grooveshark, and a ton of other awesome stuff!

Ok now that you are hip to the jig (I have always wanted to say that) here is what you are going to need to do:

FYI: This jailbreak is for iPads, iPhone 3GS/4, iPod Touch 2G/3G/4G using iOS 4.2.1

7 Steps to Jailbreak your iPhone

1. Download greenpois0n RC5 for Mac or Download greenpois0n RC5 for Windows

2. Update or Restore your device to 4.2.1 (you can do this through iTunes, but if you want to download the firmware directly checkout Mario’s awesome site jailbreakmatrix.com)

3. Start greenpois0n and click on Jailbreak

4. Put device into DFU mode by following the instructions on the screen.

5. Grab a cup of coffee or a scooby snack and let greenpois0n do it’s thing (about 5 mins), then your device will automatically reboot

6. You will now see a new app icon on your springboard called loader, launch it

7. Follow the instructions in the loader app to install Cydia

Voila you have jailbroken your iOS device on 4.2.1! Congrats!
